The handmade soap company with a personal touch
Located just outside Caledonia, Ontario, on Hwy 54, Caledonia Soapworks has been producing quality handcrafted soaps and bath & body products since 2008. The company unexpectedly started during a particularily harsh Canadian winter that left owner Robin MacKay’s skin even more dry, cracked and sore, than usual.
“Ever since I was born, I have had sensitive skin… the nice, pale pasty type of skin that never tans, is prone to rashes, and is sensitive to most products out there. In 2008, Caledonia Soapworks was born as a result of me making a batch of Goat’s Milk Soap, during a winter that was taking its toll on my skin. Even all the commercial “sensitive skin soaps” I tried irritated my skin, so I thought I’d try making Goat’s Milk Soap after doing some research on the internet. Well, I just loved it and decided to take some in to my work for a second opinion. All the nurses loved it too, so I went to work on making different soap “flavours”. My business eventually expanded to include All-Natural Body Butter, Organic Body Wash, Sugar & Salt Body Scrubs, Specialty Luxury Spa Soaps, “Caledonia Candle”, a Soy-based candle that burns clean and smells fantastic, and my latest product, All-Natural Lip Butter, made with pure Shea Butter… it’s like a spa-day for your lips!”
Made in small batches to ensure the best quality control, Robin uses all-natural oils, butters, beeswax, botanicals, and fresh goat’s milk from Hewitt’s, the popular local dairy. Each bar of soap is hand-crafted from start to finish. Even the soap labels are handmade and hand cut, by Robin. She utilizes high-quality saponified olive, coconut, sunflower, palm kernel and castor oils, shea & cocoa butters, and a variety of pure essential oils and fragrance oils in a specific, carefully calculated recipe, to ensure a safe, skin-loving bar of soap that nourishes your skin and envelopes you in a luxurious lather. Due to the handmade nature of her bars, each one may vary in size slightly, but all are approximately four ounces, and like most handcrafted soap, they will last and last and last. Our products are never tested on animals, only happy and willing friends & family!
Robin has lived in Caledonia, Ontario since 2001. She lives with her husband, Jason, and their 3 beautiful children, Julia, Justin & Nicholas. By day, she works as an RN in Hamilton, Ontario, but in every other spare minute she has, you will find her in her Soap Shop, happily making soap!
